CAMA and the Private Equity Industry

On 7th August 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari signed the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 (“CAMA 2020”) into law, repealing the extant Companies and Allied Matters Act, 1990. The CAMA 2020 is a welcome innovation for the legal and business communities and is expected to enhance the ease of doing business in Nigeria.

Notable changes introduced by the CAMA 2020 include the establishment of new corporate structures, introduction of netting and business rescue provisions, entrenchment of pre-emption rights, enhanced corporate governance procedures, provision for electronic filing, electronic share transfer and virtual meetings for private companies and so on.

The Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (PEVCA) and ǼLEX are jointly organising a Webinar to discuss the CAMA 2020 and its implications for the private equity industry in Nigeria. The Webinar, which has the theme: "CAMA and the Private Equity Industry", is scheduled to hold on Thursday, 17th September 2020 at 2.00pm.

Chinyerugo Ugoji (Partner, ǼLEX) will be speaking at the webinar along with Dipo Okuribido, (Senior Manager, Legal, Verod Capital Management). The Webinar will be moderated by Geoffrey P. Burgess (Partner, Debevoise & Plimpton).
