The African Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (AVCA) is a member-supported organisation whose mission is to catalyse the private equity and venture capital industry in Africa.

Key to achieving our mission is a focus on excellence. We promote the highest ethical standards in governance and transparency and seek to enhance the industry’s professionalism through the provision of training to our members. Our regular networking events provide opportunities to share best practices, exchange ideas and uncover new business leads. In addition, we provide ground-breaking insight and thought leadership.

About the role

Working closely with the Communications and Marketing Manager, the Communications Intern will provide support across a range of content initiatives. This role is suitable for a driven and creative individual with a positive attitude and keen eye for engaging stories about private investment. The right candidate may not have industry knowledge but must be willing to learn about African PE and VC, as well as AVCA’s ways of working. 

Tasks will include:

  • Conducting research on industry trends and themes to develop talking points for multimedia content, including blog posts, podcasts and member interviews. 
  • Curating a monthly newsletter which is comprised of member news, industry news, events and significant industry announcements. 
  • Uploading investment, exit and fundraising news to the AVCA website through a content management system (CMS). 
  • Ensuring the AVCA Member Portal is kept up to date with the latest member and industry news. 
  • Drafting and scheduling copy for AVCA’s key social media channels and keeping an eye on engagement metrics. 

Skills required

  • Interest in Africa, business, international trade, and/or private investment 
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative, agile team 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Experience using Microsoft Office 365 (Teams, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) 
  • Excellent attention to detail 
  • Experience of CRM systems is desired, but a willingness to learn is essential 
  • Ability to work on your own initiative, meet deadlines and organise workload 
  • Be a team player 

Desirable skills

  • Knowledge of private equity and venture capital in emerging markets and Africa in particular
  • Fluency in French as a second language
