Environment, Social and Governance Manager

This role will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer

Key Responsibilities 

  • Manage and monitor the firm’s business integrity policies and procedures and ensure compliance across portfolio companies;
  • Manage all firm and portfolio-level ESG obligations as outlined in the firm’s ESG & SEMS Policy. Manage implementation of ESG Action Plans and monitor compliance throughout the duration of investments. As required, oversee and liaise with external 3rd party ESG consultants;
  • Manage environmental, health & safety (EH&S) matters in accordance with international best practices, firm policy and regulatory requirements across all portfolio companies;
  • Work with the human resources department to ensure labor standards and working conditions reflect best practices and follow guidelines under relevant sections of IFC Performance Standards;
  • Lead proactive community and stakeholder engagement in communities the firm invests in;
  • Produce quarterly and annual ESG Update Reports to Investors, and attend Investment Committee meetings and make recommendations to manage ESG risks and impact;
  • Represent the firm at key ESG and private equity industry events;
  • Develop and build relationships with key stakeholders, industry bodies, development finance institutions (DFIs), leading ESG and impact investors, civil society organizations, academics and thought leaders; and
  • Conduct ESG training for firm employees and associates, and coordinate portfolio-level ESG training and development programs


  • A degree in any relevant discipline within the Sciences or Social Sciences, (an academic background in ESG-related subjects would be an added advantage);
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in sustainability or international development in the private or public sectors (experience gained at DFIs particularly welcome);
  • Excellent knowledge of ESG policies, processes and relevant reporting frameworks for ESG standards, in particular the IFC Performance Standards;
  • Practical experience with ESG due diligence, audits, implementation and monitoring of Action Plans and E&S Management systems;
  • Strong interpersonal and advocacy skills, with the ability to effect organisational change and influence senior management and Investment Committee;
  • Must be able to work effectively with all levels of employees and Management (both at firm and portfolio levels);
  • Must have strong analytical skills, including the ability to extract, compile and analyse data;
  • Requires advanced written communication and presentation skills;
  • Willingness to travel and work on-site at portfolio companies when required is key part of the role
