General Partner
General Partners are firms that make equity investments primarily in unquoted companies and raise funds from a range of third parties. General partners incorporate private equity and venture capital fund managers, and those executing a private equity strategy using an investment holding company structure.

Direct Investor
Direct Investors are defined as investors whose core private equity strategy is direct investing in operational entities rather than fund investing.

Third Party Fund Managers
Third Party Fund Managers are those whose private equity strategy is predominantly executed via investing in private equity funds, on behalf of other investors. This category includes funds-of-funds, investment consultants and multi-family offices.

Institutional Investors
Institutional Investors includes all non-retail investors that invest in private equity funds, including development finance institutions, endowments, family offices, insurance companies, multi-asset managers, public and private pension funds and sovereign wealth funds.

Foundation
Foundations are those institutional investor firms which have philanthropic goals.

Financial Institutions
Financial Institution include institutions that provide debt facilities to the private equity and venture capital industry, as well as alternative lenders.

Professional Services Firm
Professional Services Firm are those providing services to the private equity and venture capital industry, including, but not limited to, law firms, accounting firms, fund administrators, placement agents and communications specialists.

Academic
Academic Institutions are educational or research organisations that have an active involvement with the private equity and venture capital industry.

*AVCA membership runs calendar year from 1 January – 31 December annually. Any applications started before June 15th will be invoiced for the annual fee of membership. For those applications made after June 15th, applicants will be billed for the current membership year on a pro-rated basis, in addition to the membership fee for the full membership year ahead.
