Value creation is a combination of talent, strong processes and governance

In 2013, Albert Alsina founded Mediterrania Capital Partners and began refining his model of Value Creation while working directly with small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and mid-cap companies in Africa. Since that time, Albert and his team have engaged in telecom, healthcare, education, financial services, agribusiness, logistics, consumer goods, and white goods companies in many countries. This book organises the principles, practices, and hard-won experience the Mediterrania Capital Partners team members have acquired over the years into a value creation model that is applicable to any business, regardless of the industry or geography in which it operates.

Value Creation in Private Equity is the result of the author’s more than 25 years of managing companies and creating value across a wide variety of sectors, regions and countries, including the US, Western Europe, Asia, Latin American, and North and Sub-Saharan Africa. Over the years, AlbertAlsinadeveloped a set of principles and practices related to value creation that can be applied to almost any business.

Among the reasons Albert Alsina’s Value Creation model is successful is that it calls for intensive engagement with the portfolio company during the early phase of the deal; the implementation of creative initiatives for improving productivity and fostering organic growth as well as inorganic growth; and complementing top management with external support. The value creation model thus combines principles of sound execution, governance, human capital best practices, strong company-wide processes, carefully crafted strategy, and the know-how and networks of our professionals and the portfolio company leadership.

The findings contained in this book regarding the concrete creation of value are by no means abstract theoretical ideas. Above all, this book is intended to provide practical advice that private equity investors seeking profitable exits from their investments can put into action. This book is thus a practical guide that provides a roadmap to transforming any business into a value-focused company.

Albert Alsina is the Founder, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Partner of Mediterrania Capital Partners. He is a member of AVCA's Sustainability Committee. Albert Alsina will speak on the 'Evolving Themes and Emerging Opportunities' panel at the AVCA Conference.
