Marina Nakano appointed new AVCA Chief Operating Officer & Financial Director

London, UK, Thursday, 27th February 2020: The African Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (AVCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Marina Nakano as Chief Operating Officer and Financial Director.

Marina joins AVCA with over 15 years of experience in financing and controlling projects in emerging markets. She also holds an Industrial Engineering degree from University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and an MBA from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business.

Most recently, Marina was COO/CFO of Walkabout Foundation, a UK/US registered charity deploying projects in developing countries, with a focus in East Africa in particular. Prior to this, she spent 15 years in Investment Banking between Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, UBS and Itau BBA in New York, London, Sao Paulo and Dubai, mainly covering Emerging Markets.

Maria will be responsible for directing and overseeing the day-to-day operations across all AVCA’s pillars in accordance with the strategic plan and budgets, leading the team to deliver measurable and cost-effective results. She will also be responsible for developing and continually monitoring budget and financial performance, providing in-house financial management and implementing financial strategies to achieve the objectives.

Speaking of the appointment, Marina said, “It is a great pleasure to be joining AVCA after 15 years working closely with emerging markets. I am excited to be part of the fast development of the African private equity. AVCA plays a significant role in boosting and facilitating private investment in Africa and I am looking forward to supporting AVCA’s action and application.”
